Windows 10 search feature has been very helpful to me. Sometimes I couldn't remember in what folder I saved my files such as homeworks, documents, etc., so what I do is just click the Windows 10 logo, then type the name of the file that I'm looking for then viola! I'm able to get results every time. But just a few days ago, I had hard time getting my file as this search feature refused to work. Restart didn't work. According to some articles I found, Microsoft has not released windows update yet that would fix the issue as of this moment.
These two easy fixes helped me to get Windows 10 search problem resolved:
- Solution 1 - Restart search process from Task Manager
- Solution 2 - Temporarily disable search for Bing
- [1] Open Task Manager by pressing CTRL + Shift + Esc on your keboard
- [2] Click the Details tab
- [3] Right-click the SearchUI.exe process
- [4] Click End task then select End Proceess button
Be careful on following steps below as this process is critical.
- [1] Open Registry Editor by pressing Windows + R on your keyboard
- [2] Type regedit then click OK
- [3] It will open up the Registry Editor window. Then navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Search
- [4] Right-click the right pane of the Registry Editor window then it will bring up the menu
- [5] Click New then select D-WORD (32-bit) Value
- [6] Type BingSearchEnabled and press enter on your keyboard
- [7] Double click BingSearchEnabled and type 0 Value data field, then click OK
- [8] Double click CortanaConsent and type 0 Value data field, then click OK
- [9] Restart your computer
You should be able to use Windows 10 search feature now, however the results would be dependent on apps installed and local files and folders only as we have disabled Bing. But if you don't use Windows 10 search feature to look for something online, this should not be a problem.
