[SOLVED] How to get rid of “Aw, Snap!” error message in Google Chrome

Google Chrome is one of the best browsers and I probably recommend this to everyone. But, in the past few weeks, it has been reported by many users of getting “Aw, Snap!” error message. So, I listed three (3) easy fixes below that worked for me.

 Fix “Aw, Snap!” error message in Google Chrome: 



  • Solution 1 - Rename Google Chrome executable file from Program Files folder
  • Solution 2 - Install Google Chrome without uninstalling the current installed one
  • Solution 3 - Install Google Chrome using offline installer version 78.0.3904.108


Solution 1 - Rename Google Chrome executable file from Program Files folder


  • [1] From your desktop, right click the Google Chrome shortcut icon, then click Open file location.



  • [2] It will open up a folder as to where your Google Chrome is currently installed. Rename “chrome” to “chrome.” (without quotations).


It should look like this 👇


  • [3] Restart Google Chrome and check if the issue is resolved.

Solution 2 – Install Google Chrome without uninstalling the current installed one


  • [1] Download and install Google Chrome here then click Download Chrome.

          Note: You may need to use other browser to proceed to this step.


Google Chrome Terms of Service pop up will appear, click Accept and Install.


It will download an executable file, click ChromeSetup.exe. Just follow the instructions until the installation is completed.


  • [2] Open Google Chrome and check if the issue is resolved.


Solution 3 – Install Google Chrome using offline installer version 78.0.3904.108


  • [1] Backup your Google Chrome profile by simultaneously pressing "Windows" + "R" keys to open the Run window, then type “%LOCALAPPDATA%\Google\Chrome\User Data\” then press enter.

          Note: You can proceed to [3] if there’s nothing to back up on your current profile.


  • [2] Find the Default folder and copy it to a backup location e.g. Desktop.


  • [3] Uninstall Google Chrome by simultaneously pressing "Windows" + "R" keys to open the Run window, then type “appwiz.cpl” then press enter.


  • [4] Select Google Chrome then click Uninstall.


  • [5] Download and install Google Chrome offline installer version 78.0.3904.108:
          
  • [6] Restore your Google Chrome profile by simultaneously pressing "Windows" + "R" keys to open the Run window, then type “%LOCALAPPDATA%\Google\Chrome\User Data\” then press enter.

Note: You can proceed to [8] if you didn't backup anything.



  • [7] Delete the Default folder then paste your backup.


  • [8] Open Google Chrome. The problem should have resolved now.
